Welcome to the creative portfolio of L.F. Williams, desperately-wanting-to-be-finished-a-book self-published author... and master procrastinator.
Books
Kenneth Investigations
A three-part paranormal mystery series where vampires and magic exist alongside the gentrification of the Annex, investigators have to contend with magic as well as blood spatter, and There's Something More Going On in this seemingly-simple murder case.
Autumn Falls
Book one in the trilogy coming soon (tentative title!). Set in Toronto.
One month into her life as a vampire, Lilith has adjusted to the hours (bright daylight is overrated), is bored working retail (she was a commerce major), and needs a challenge (anything to get out from behind the cash register for a while).
Ken just wants Will (his private investigator boyfriend, whose cases take him all across the country) back in town -- to hell with the consequences of their psychic bond. So when Will comes back to Toronto to work a case and enlists Ken's help, it should be the answer to everyone's problems. It's Ken's opportunity to teach Lilith what he knows about magic, and give her something to do besides ring up books.
But as the case unfolds, Will suspects the people who hired him are keeping key information a secret and his first instinct is to cut his losses. Against every instinct, the trio continue to investigate, but the more they learn, the more dangerous things get. When deadly magic comes into play and a mistake nearly costs Ken and Will their lives, Lilith has to step up, take over, and save their lives. At least it's more interesting than retail.
Sequels
Two sequels tbd: book two is set in the arctic and involves an unlikely theft, a remote mining camp, and more international money laundering than anyone can navigate. Book three is the culmination of threads, set in Europe, and presents the ultimate question to Ken and Will's relationship.
Other Books
Vespera 318
In progress. A hopefully funny space opera about being stubborn, on the go, and justifiably paranoid. After all, it's only unreasonable paranoia if nothing's out to get you. (Sample coming.)
The completely normal, not-at-all suspicious crew of the Vespera 318 take on a simple contract to ferry around a completely normal, not-at-all suspicious passenger on a series of diplomatic goodwill visits. Their brand new navigator, Zan, comes aboard specifically for this innocuous journey. But she isn't the type to ask questions when money comes her way, not even when she should -- so she tells herself to do the job and leave the rest alone.
Four threads to four planets, a few days of diplomatic meet and greets for their Envoy passenger. Zan's there to get the ship where it needs to go, and hopefully not get arrested on shore leave. Maybe attend some dull, but tasty, state dinners. Keep her mouth shut. That's all.
Clearly, nothing will go wrong here.
Modern Geography
In progress novel about demons, fairies, polyamory, trying your best when really, your best isn't all that good... and finding a place in the world when you don't know how.
When Cassidy, demon-without-a-care, decides never to go back to Tartarus and settles in reality as a Spirit Sanitation Worker, she tells everyone it has nothing to do with her ex that fell through. Her girlfriend, the fairy Finny, wouldn't believe her (if she knew), and their boyfriend, the vampire Nathan, doesn't want to get involved (if he could). And it is just a job -- until Cass starts sensing more than the usual fractured spirits. Turns out she's accidentally scrying right between the barriers.
Finny and Nathan are only trying to help, but Cassidy never wanted to get close to anyone; to get close was to get hurt, demon be damned. But the cracks forming in the ice don't care about her feelings, so the three of them try and fix it.
Walking between barriers, Cassidy, Finny, and Nathan (in order: angry, hurt, and reluctant), have to try not to get lost, or lose each other. But fairy-ice is an unforgiving medium to spell-weave, and the fog between spaces has the power to break people down if you aren't careful.
And Cassidy doesn't know how to be careful.
About
L.F. Williams is me, I am her, et cetera, it's a pseudonym. I've been writing for years for fun* and decided that it was time to try and publish some of the languishing original work I've been putting off finishing.
* (Yes, I wrote/write fanfiction, if you recognise the nickname.)
I think my writing would be best described as: usually quirky, occasionally weird, probably queer-themed, aiming for the happy ending. Hopefully readers would say the same thing? One day, maybe, I'll manage to write the straight-up Romance Happily Ever Sometime. Until then, it'll be As Happy As Possible Given [Insert Tense Problem] -- usually in some genre (sci-fi or fantasy adjacent).
I've got a bachelors in mythology, a Masters in new media (long story very short), and if I were to ever to go back for a PhD it would involve religious theory and Bioware.
